Hyderabad: Making a mockery of the policing mechanism, miscreants continue to strike at will. They are unabatedly attacking women and setting them on fire at the slightest pretext. Despite the state government trying to make the city safe by upgrading the police mechanism by introducing new police vehicles, installation of CCTVs, forming 'SHE' teams and various other tech-support gadgets, the city has turned more crime prone and all efforts by the police in tackling crime against women are proving futile.

  • Crime unabated in many city areas
  • Second incident in last three days

A series of burglaries and robberies which have been reported in posh areas like Jubilee Hills recently appear to have dealt a blow to the policing mechanism. On March 13, burglars struck in a big way at Ramanaidu Studio and Director Puri Jaganath’s house and decamped with cash and valuables worth lakhs of rupees.

They are unabatedly striking at houses and decamping with valuables even in the presence of family members. On March 17, a woman who was found burnt alive after being allegedly raped near Old Gandhi Hospital occurring right under the nose of the police sends an incontrovertible message. In another shocking incident on Friday, an unidentified woman was found burnt at a park just behind the IAS Officers Colony barely a kilometer away from the Punjagutta police station which is supposed to be the high security zone.

This is the second such incident in the city which has been reported in the last three days. The victim's body, charred beyond recognition, was lying inside a park premises abutting a garage in IAS Officers Colony behind the famous Pochamma Temple. Reports suggest that the woman was around 25 years of age.

The incident took place right in front of Late P Subramanyam’s house. “We were awake till 12.30 on Thursday and our dogs were also behaving normally otherwise, they bark at the slightest noise,” Girish, the personal assistant of the late officer’s daughter said.

Police, who rushed to the spot after being alerted by the neighbours on Friday morning, said the woman was yet to be identified. “Children spotted the body who were playing in the park at around 6 am,” Aviansh Pandey, watchman of MG Gopal, principal secretary in the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department said.
