Hyderabad: Taken aback by the recent spurt of incidents of crime including the killing of two police personnel in Suryapet in Nalgonda district on Wednesday night, the Telangana government on Thursday evening resorted to a reshuffle in police administration.

Following the visit of Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy to the district and the reports from DGP, the government transferred Nalgonda district Superintendent of Police (SP) T Prabhakar Rao and replaced him with Vikram Jeet Duggal, a 2007 batch IPS officer.

As the SP of Visakhapatnam Rural in the undivided Andhra Pradesh, Duggal had played significant role in tackling the Maoist menace for which he was chosen for the Homeland Security (special recognition) Award by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Orlando, Florida, USA.Duggal went to Orlando to receive this international honor on 26 October, 2014.

Dr T Prabhakar Rao (2001), who was the SP, Nalgonda, is now transferred and posted as SP, CID, Hyderabad. Similarly, Rajesh Kumar (2002) who is waiting for posting is transferred and posted as SP, CI Cell, Intelligence, Hyderabad. Earlier, DGP Anurag Sharma told the media that this appeared to be a clear case of some interstate gang. He ruled out the possibility of any Maoist role in the incident.
