Hyderabad: The Task Force (North and West) police on Tuesday have arrested four persons in a bid to kidnap a businessman in the city. Police recovered a US pistol, a country-made revolver, 21 live rounds of 8 mm, 19 live rounds of 7.65 mm, a car, two fake vehicle number plates, a rope, two wooden sticks, five cell phones, a screw driver, a spanner, fake Aadhar, voter ID and PAN cards and three debit cards from their possession.

The names of the arrested are S Appala Trinada Varma alias Raghu, 32, K Raji Reddy, 52, an ex-Naxalite, both residents of Moula Ali, J Nagaraju, 39, of Malakpet and D Damodhar of Chikalguda.Acting on a tip-off, a team under the supervision of DCP (Task Force) B Limba Reddy, arrested Varma and Raji on Tuesday from picket area when they were moving suspiciously in a car (AP 1 TV 3700).

On being quizzed, they could not produce relevant documents supporting the vehicle and the weapons kept inside the vehicle. During interrogation, they confessed to their plan to kidnap a businessman and on their instance, police nabbed Nagaraju and Damodhar from their places. “In 2003, Varma, a native of East Godavari district, came to the city for livelihood and resided at his friend’s place in Shapur Nagar after that he shifted to Moula Ali and has been staying there since two years.

He is also in real estate business. He gradually developed friendship with Raji, Nagaraju and Damodhar and explained them about his plan of kidnapping rich businessmen for ransom. To put their plan into action, Varma and Raji went to Allahabad, UP, and purchased two weapons along with bullets for Rs 60,000 from one, Anupam,” the DCP said, adding that they attempted three times to kidnap a hotel owner in Himayathnagar, a wine shop owner of Yapral and a temple trustee cum priest of Aleru but could not succeed in their plans due to various reasons. The accused along with the seized items were handed over to Marredpally police for further necessary action.
