Businessman murders wife in an altercation

On Sunday night, a businessman got into an altercation with his wife, a former air hostess and allegedly murdered her. The businessman, Sachin Uppal allegedly hit his wife’s head against the floor and she was pronounced dead when brought to a private hospital in Ramanthapur.

28 year old Ritu Sareen, a native of Jamshedpur was a former Jet Airways employee while her husband Sachin runs an electronic goods business in Koti. The couple got married one and a half years ago. Police officials suspect that the reason behind the attack was for dowry and that Sachin had been torturing his wife for the same reason.

A Police official said that a friend of the couple, witnessed the brutal assault and Sachin had asked him to leave while he locked her in the bedroom.

A case has been registered by the Uppal Police under IPC section 302 (for murder) and 304 B (dowry death) as per the complaint of the victim’s mother and Sachin was arrested on Monday. Uppal police inspector Y. Narasimha Reddy said that apart from hitting her against the floor, there were a lot of internal injuries which might be the reason of her death. However, the post-mortem reports are awaited to confirm the cause of death said Mr. Reddy.

Police sources informed that Sachin called Ritu’s father stating that she was ill and needed to be taken to hospital. When Ritu’s parents took her to the hospital, she was declared dead by the doctors.

Ritu’s family on several occasions tried to persuade her to divorce Sachin to escape his torture but Ritu hoped that things would get better. Ritu’s sister, Tulika Sareen said that Sachin showed his sadistic side just two months after the wedding and committed marital rape frequently, even when Ritu was nine months pregnant. Also that he tortured her for dowry by hitting her almost every day said Tulika.

Ritu’s mother Ujala alleged that Sachin only called them after her death.
