The Chief Secretary has asked all departments to conduct a detailed inquiry on officials who were on deputation to the Waqf Board and were allegedly involved in irregularities related to transfer of land, Principal Secretary of the Minorities Department Jayashree Mukherjee said.
The ATS Shaikh Commission constituted to find out irregularities in transfer of Waqf land has recommended criminal action against those involved in alleged land grabbing and illegal deals, she said.
Referring to the commission's report, she said that the committee would take action against officials who were allegedly involved in irregularities.
"According to the recommendation by the commission, the high powered committee led by Chief Secretary Swadheen Kshatriya has asked each department to make a list of the government officials who were on deputation with minority department," Mukherjee said, while speaking to reporters at Mantralaya.
She said that officials found to be involved in irregularities may face a departmental inquiry and criminal cases would be filed against them, if they were found guilty.
The Maharashtra government has received several complaints pertaining to alleged irregularities in the sale and transfer of land donated by the Muslim community, she said.
In fact, Minister for Minority Affairs Eknath Khadse had raised the issue of Waqf land in assembly several times when he was in the opposition.
