Hyderabad: The Task Force (West) police in a joint operation with the Chikkadapally police busted an inter-State gang who indulge in highway robberies and arrested six persons when they were preparing to dispose the stolen property in the state capital. Police recovered 416 Gold Flake cigarette cartons worth Rs 3. 28 crore, a car, a rope, three daggers and six cell phones from them.

Acting on a tip-off, the special joint operation team on Tuesday arrested Allah Shah, 42, Dastagiri Shah, 32, Radha Krishna, 32, Satish, 25, Md Arshad, 19 and Sunil, 30, all native of Bidar of Karnataka state, who were wanted in several cases including robberies and offences under NDPS Act and Indian Arms Act.

The police received information that the gang members reached the city to dispose the stolen material, DCP (Central) VB Kamalasan said. During interrogation, the gang members revealed to cops that they hailed from Bidar in Karnataka district. As per their plan, Allah Shah gave Rs 2 lakh as advance and a bike for preparation to commit highway dacoity and asked Dastagiri Shah and Md Arshad to conduct a recce on highway to commit the offence.

“As per the given task, three members kept a watch on highway for about 15 days and identified ITC Company located at Ranjangaon, near Tembhurni, Sholapur district of Maharashtra State as their potential target. After observing the movements of the cigarette containers and the dispatch timings, the team decided to intercept the loaded cigarette transport container.

After three days of observation, on June 10, the team led by Dastagiri Shah, Satish and Md .Arshad intercepted the container (AP29 TA 1651) at Indapur, Maharashtra and forcibly entered into the cabin. Then they overpowered the driver at knife point and tied his hands and legs with ropes, blindfolded him and plastered his mouth with a tape.

After travelling some distance, they noticed a GPS system in the container and fearing that they would be tracked, they deactivated it. Later, they took the container to Kankatta village and unloaded the container at Sunil’s house. Allah Shah and Radha Krishna joined the gang members.

After unloading the container, the accused persons abandoned the vehicle at Tuljapur crossroads and sped-away from the spot. Meanwhile, the driver alerted the passersby and lodged a complaint with the Temburi police station in Pune,” DCP said adding that dacoity gang brought the stolen material in a DCM vehicle belonging to Allah Shah to Patancheru outskirts for disposal.
