Hyderabad: A 25-year-old newly-wed woman committed suicide allegedly due to dowry harassment by her husband in Hyderabad.

According to LB Nagar police, the woman M Varsha took the extreme step by hanging to the ceiling at her residence in New Shivapuri Colony on Sunday night. Varsha was married to Ranjit, a Railway official working in Kazipet, in March 2015.

During marriage, Varsha's parents gave Rs 10 lakh cash, 50 tolas gold, five kg silver and 150 sq yards plot in Nandi Hills as dowry. However, not contented with this, Ranjit has been allegedly harassing Varsha for the last few weeks demanding additional dowry of Rs 10 lakh cash and six-acre land. The LB Nagar police registered a case under section 304 of IPC against Ranjit and began investigation.
