Hyderabad: Three people hailing from an inter-state attention diversion gang have been arrested by the Central Zone police of Hyderabad on Wednesday. The gang has committed 11 thefts so far.On witnessing a series of attention diversion cases in Hyderabad and Cyberabad, the city police formed special teams to nab the accused. On October 19, a case was registered where the gang stolen Rs 2.38 lakh from a businessman in Ramgopalpet police station limits.

On examination of CCTV footage, the team identified the motorcycle used by the accused. The accused brought the vehicle from a person who sold it online. During investigation, the location of the accused was traced to Kondapur. The team found that the accused had hired a luxurious apartment for a monthly rent of Rs 25,000 and paid three months advance to the house owner. After keeping surveillance of the apartment for 10 days, the police nabbed Gopi Sundar Raj alias Rishi (32), welder from Chennai, Purushottam Prabhu (32), a car driver from Chennai and Kunchala Amarnath (26), a student from Nellore district. Meanwhile one from the gang Ratna Kumar (36) managed to escape.

Central Zone DCP V B Kamalasan Reddy said that prime accused Ratna Kumar was a habitual offender. On learning that his three friends were facing financial problems, he offered Rs 50,000 each for helping him in committing offences.

At times, when they stole more money, he also paid them incentives varying from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000. In order to evade the police, they rented a flat in Kondapur, claiming to be techies. Between August and October this year, they committed 11 offences, the

DCP said. “During interrogation, it was revealed that they were living lavishly and travelled on flights to avoid the police. They used to travel in flights from Hyderabad to Chennai, as searches would generally be carried out at bus and railway stations,” he said. Upon their arrest, the police seized gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 5 lakh along with two bikes, ornament weighing machine, screw drivers and itching powder.
