Hyderabad/Eluru: Anti-Corruption Bureau on Thursday found assets worth over Rs 13.11 crore disproportionate to known sources of income from a retired Indian Forest Service officer. A criminal case was also registered against the retired IFS official Bhimavarapu Basivireddy, the ACB said in a press release.

The release said the sleuths of ACB conducted simultaneous searches at the residence of retired deputy conservator of forests, Basivireddy at Tadepalli near Vijayawada and also at 11 other places in Guntur, Krishna and Chittoor districts including the houses of his relatives and friends.

During the searches, four open plots, one flat, two houses, 9.54 acres of agricultural land worth Rs 2.70 crore at Guntur, Vijayawada and Tirupati were detected. Besides documents related to Rs 5.38 crore advance payments for a 68.56 acre land transaction in Guntur and Krishna districts were also seized.

Other documents showing that a sum of Rs 4.68 crore lent to others and an outstanding balance of Rs 8.53 lakh in a Demat account, 193 grams of gold and Rs 17,000 cash were also seized from his house, and another bank locker was yet to be opened, the release said.

In another case, an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) attached to Special Branch was caught red-handed by ACB officials at Alamuru village in Penumantra mandal of West Godavari district on Thursday night.Thota Nagesh of Alamuru village applied for passport and his credentials have to be cleared by police.

However, the Special Branch ASI K Uday Bhaskar had demanded Rs 5,000 from Nagesh to give police clearance for the same. Then, Nagesh approached ACB officials and up on their advice Nagesh called up ASI and expressed his willingness to pay the said amount. The ASI asked him to give the amount at AMC check post in Alamuru in the evening and arranged an agent Tella Suresh to collect bribe money.
