Hyderabad: The Pahadishareef police on Wednesday rescued 45 child labourers working in the local units that supply semi-finished goods to the bangle industry. These children in the age group of 6 and 12 were found to be working under hazardous conditions in a unit at New Babanagar.

Balala Hakkula Sangham president Anuradha said the children were trafficked from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and were working as bonded labourers. She said there was a mafia group involved in this issue, “Otherwise it’s not easy for an ordinary person to bring so many children including 10 girls and 35 boys at once in the train,” she said.

The rescued children lamented that a man whom they called uncle brought them to Hyderabad promising for sightseeing. “After getting us here we were taken to an unknown area. We were given task of decorating the bangles with stones and other attractive items.”

The victims said that they were given bun twice a day and tea was served a number of times in a day. They further said that even though we were hurt during the process of the work, we were not taken to the doctor.Anuradha demanded that the labour inspector of the particular area has to be suspended.
