The police, who picked up three persons on suspicion, were shocked to find three 700-year-old panchaloha idols with them. On a tip-off, the CCS Inspector, T Eswaraiah, with the help of urban police wing conducted vehicle check at Pandurangapuram village on the suburbs of Khammam city in the wee hours of Saturday. 

Khammam: The police, who picked up three persons on suspicion, were shocked to find three 700-year-old panchaloha idols with them. On a tip-off, the CCS Inspector, T Eswaraiah, with the help of urban police wing conducted vehicle check at Pandurangapuram village on the suburbs of Khammam city in the wee hours of Saturday.

During the check, they found three persons Jangala Venkanna, Vipuri Prasad and Gaddala Shyam of Koyachelka village wandering suspiciously. The trio spilled the beans when the police interrogated them. The Additional Superintendent of Police S Saikrishna said that the trio involved in a theft that took place at Pandurangapuram village and made away with ornaments worth around Rs 50,000 on August 30, 2015.

The trio also broke open the doors of Varadaraja Swamy temple at Rajole village under Kuravi mandal decamped with the 700-year-old Panchaloha idols of Varadaraja Swamy, Sridevi Ammavaru and Bhudevi Ammavaru on March 15. Later, they hid it in a field near their native village Koyachelka. The police, who seized the idols, sought the help of Archaeological department to ascertain the value of the idols.
