Hyderabad: A notorious attention -diverting offender, Bathula Ravi Kiran alias Tinku (28), an electrician from Kacheguda who targeted minor girls, was nabbed by the Kacheguda police on Friday.

Based on the information provided by him, four gold traders Vinod Kumar Jain (52) of Chikkadpally, Santosh Jain (33), Jayesh Gandhi (38) of Kacheguda and Gowtham Chand Jain (55) of Narayanguda, were taken into custody and property worth Rs 7.1 lakh including 20 tolas gold, 2.8 kg of silver and a bike were recovered from them.

The traders had been buying the stolen loot from Ravi Kiran who was wanted since December 2012 by the twin
Commissionerate police. He was finally apprehended on Friday during a ‘vehicle-checking’ drive by the police.

East Zone DCP Dr V Ravinder explained the modus operandi of the criminal. “He used to work as an electrician for a salary of Rs 4000 which he found to be insufficient and therefore took to a life of crime.

He selected residential areas without CC cameras that had schools in their vicinity and approached young girls aged between 10 to 12 years of age pretending to be a friend of their father.

He convinced the girls to go along with him saying that they had won a scholarship. He would then make them remove their jewelry saying that the donors would not give the scholarship to rich students, and escape from the place with the jewelry,” said Dr Ravinder.

He said that the accused had committed 150 offences including 28 offences that were registered in the twin Commissionerate police stations.
