6 held for blood adulteration

​Hyderabad: Six persons including the contract employee of Government Maternity Hospital and a woman, who is the owner of a private blood bank, were arrested by the Sultan Bazaar police for selling adulterated blood to the patients. Revealing the details, East Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dr V Ravinder said the prime accused K Narendra Prasad (23), an employee of Koti Maternity Hospital and his friends T Naga Raju (23), K Rakesh (24) and K Raghavendra (30), all lab technicians at various blood banks, along with Bora Sowmya (30), owner of Rakshitha Blood Bank in Koti and P Naresh (30), administrator of Balaji Blood Bank in Malakpet, sold adulterated blood to patients and made huge money.

The accused pasted the labels of the blood bank they were working in, on the blood sachets that comprised 60 percent blood and 40 percent glucose. The prime accused Narendra then used to scare the attendants of the patients at Koti Maternity Hospital into buying the adulterated packets by telling them that the blood supplied by private blood banks was hazardous whereas the blood packets of government blood banks were genuine.

The DCP said that the accused confessed to have received help from the Rakshitha and Balaji Blood Banks and Sowmya and Naresh were arrested for helping Narendra in packing the blood sachets. “Rakesh, who worked in Aditya Blood Bank, supplied empty blood sachets to Narender for a commission of Rs 100 per sachet, and despite being aware of the scam, Raghavendra, who was working in the maternity hospital did not reveal it to the higher officials and collected his commission instead,” said DCP Ravinder.
