Hyderabad: The customs officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Monday detained an air passenger on charges of attempting to smuggle high-quality gold out of the airport.

According to the sources, the air passenger has arrived at the RGIA around 8.30 am on Monday in an Emirates flight from Dubai. During routine checks by the customs officials, the officials found a gold bar in his possession.

The passenger was detained and the officials seized 270 gm of gold bar hidden in his undergarments. The gold bar with an imprint of ‘The Perth Mint Australia’ is estimated to cost about Rs 9.3 lakh.

The Perth Mint Gold is almost 99.9 per cent pure gold, sources said, adding that the accused was being questioned.
