South zone police have arrested as many as 16 persons for selling tobacco products to school going kids and youngsters. Prompted by allegations that pan shops and some other outlets were selling drugs in the garb of hukka and e-cigarettes, police carried out the raids. 

Hyderabad: South zone police have arrested as many as 16 persons for selling tobacco products to school going kids and youngsters. Prompted by allegations that pan shops and some other outlets were selling drugs in the garb of hukka and e-cigarettes, police carried out the raids.

It was found during the raids that the shop owners were selling foreign cigarettes, hukka flavours and e-cigarettes to school going kids and youngsters. The tobacco products sold for the youngsters do not carry any statutory warning saying smoking causes cancer or smoking kills, police said.

The raids were conducted in various shops located in Dabeerpura, Santoshnagar, Kanchanbagh, Madannapet, Falaknuma and Chandrayangutta police station limits.

The main culprits from Begum Bazaar and Shaharon Market were also arrested and the seized material was sent to forensic science laboratory for analysis, police said adding that further investigation was on.
