Hyderabad: Alleged land-grabbers allegedly encroached on 1,000 square yards of land, estimated to be worth Rs 6 crore in Banjara Hills, by producing fake documents to show that the landowner, who was long ago dead, was still alive.

The police on Saturday claimed to have busted the gang and arrested 6 of the 11 suspects after employees of Sub-Registrar office at Erragadda reported the matter. According to SR Nagar police, the land belonged to a retired teacher, Radhakrishna, who died in 1986. He was survived by his wife and three children. He bought the plot in 1967. It is situated on Road No.12.

The police said the accused Sikander Nawab had faked the documents in the name of Radhakrishna and made his friend pose as landowner, Imtiyaz Ahmed,. Later, the gang sold the plot to a Kukatpally resident, Bhanu Teja. However, the Rajalaxmi, the wife of Radhakrishna, came to know about the plot in August.

When she claimed the land, Bhanu Teja informed her that husband had sold the land to him. After realising that some vested interests had encroached upon her land, she approached the SR Nagar police which began investigation. The police arrested six persons involved in this, but the prime accused Sikander is still absconding.
