Nizampet (Medak): One more death of an emigrant labour in Dubai has been reported from Medak district on Tuesday. 35-year-old Jala Mallesh, who was working as a shepherd in Dubai for two years, committed suicide by hanging himself at his workplace on Tuesday morning. The family members in Nizampet village of Medak district got the call of his death from his Dubai employer around 10 am on Tuesday.

The brother of the deceased, Yadagiri, who also worked with him in Dubai and returned home two days ago, said he was suffering from depression and health problems which reportedly led him to take the extreme step. Mallesh survived by his wife Laxmi and three children — son Babu (15), daughters Bhavya (13) and Shravani (12).

According to Yadagiri, who is elder to the deceased, he took Mallesh to Dubai to work along with a few of his villagers in 2015 as the latter was unable to pay back the debts taken for the construction of his house and for two unsuccessful bore wells in his two acres of land.

Mallesh was hired as a shepherd there in Dubai at a remote place where he used to look after sheep staying in a shed which is about 50 km away from downtown area. Daily a truck goes to the work place carrying food and water for workers in the morning and evening. Even there is no medical facility in the surroundings according to sources.

Mallesh eventually fell sick and suffered from typhoid for which his family members had to send medicines by courier from his village last year. He could not clear family debts, but his family had to send in return for his medication as his condition was deplorable.

Yadagiri said Mallesh looked normal at the time of his see-off. “Ever since he went to Dubai, my husband did not visit his home in two years. Two days ago, he told me on the phone that he would send money home in two or three days,” said the emigrant labour’s wife Laxmi. However, to their shock, the family got the call from Dubai about his suicide.

As the bereaved family is in a helpless condition, Nizampet village head Tirumal Goud and MPTC Venkat Swamy approached Medak MLA and Deputy Speaker Padma Devendar Reddy and urged her to help bring the body from Dubai.

The Deputy Speaker, who asked them to send a photocopy of emigrant’s passport, assured the victim’s family to speed up the process by forwarding the matter to the NRI Ministry to speak to the Indian Embassy in Dubai.
