pacEluru: Demanding the immediate election to Siddantham Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS) in Penugonda mandal, leaders of YSRCP staged a dharna at the Collectorate here on Monday. YSRCP Achanta Assembly constituency coordinator Mallula Laxminarayana, party district media coordinator B V Ramana and other leaders came to the Collectorate and submitted a memorandum to Joint Collector Baburao Naidu who was conducting the Prajavani programme at the time. After submitting the memorandum, the YSRCP staged a protest in front of the Joint Collector and raised slogans against the district administration for the delay in conducting the elections to Siddantham PACS. The YSRCP leaders said that even though the High Court ordered the Government to conduct the election immediately, the officials were deliberately postponing the election citing the law and order problems and were violating the court orders. YSRCP leader Mallu Laxminarayana alleged that Minister Pithani Satyanarayana was pressurizing the officials to postpone the election as the Congress party was not in a position to face the elections in the district. Upon receiving the information, police reached the Collectorate and took the agitating leaders into custody and shifted them to Three Town Police Station in Eluru town. However, protesting against the arrest of their leaders, scores of YSRCP activists came to the police station and staged a dharna. At last, the arrested leaders were released on personal surety.
