Health And Cleanliness Week Observed In Kakinada Kakinada: Health is wealth says an adage. People can keep good health only when the surroundings are clean, said East Godavari District Collector Neetu Kumari Prasad. CleanShe took part in the Health and Cleanliness Week at Balaji Cheruvu Centre here on Thursday as part of Education Fortnight. The Collector flagged off a rally on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, she said that Health and Cleanliness Week was being observed to create awareness among the children and through them people would be motivated. Rs. 40,000 was granted to MDOs from the department of rural water supply. She advised the MDOs to make the programme a grand success. Students from 20 schools in every mandal will take part in the rally by holding placards and banners with a message on hygiene. Quiz and essay writing competitions would be conducted for students on personal hygiene, health and cleanliness in the surroundings and gifts would be distributed for the winners, she said. With the onset of monsoon, she advised the people to keep their surroundings clean as water logging may become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. She directed the municipal officials to take up sanitation from time to time. Similarly, she told the officials to chlorinate the water in towns and villages to contain outbreak of seasonal diseases. She gave a fiat to the special officers to inspect the sanitation works regularly. She further stated that they kept a target of one lakh toilet constructions, but till date only 25,000 toilets were constructed and the remaining would be completed as soon as possible. She appealed to the people to construct individual toilets as defecating in open places would lead to pollution and spread of diseases.
