Hyderabad: State government has decided to exempt all Intermediate courses from the bio-metric verification process for sanction of scholarships to the eligible students from the weaker sections. J Raymond Peter, Principal Secretary of the Social Welfare Department on Tuesday asked the college managements to inform the same to all the students immediately and take steps to disburse the amount at the earliest.

This decision was taken as the private college managements failed to purchase biometric devices which are mandatory to undertake the process. The inordinate delay caused immense hardship to thousands of students in getting scholarship and lakhs of students could not even apply for the same.
Although the bio-metric verification was done away with, the managements were strictly advised to verify each and every one before authentication on the ‘bar-coded application’. ‘Before sending the bar-coded application after signing by the managements or their representatives to the district welfare officers, they should ensure all the details of the applicants are correct. The welfare officers should retrieve the applications with the help of bar code readers,’ the orders said.
The managements have complained that the biometric devices were sold for an exorbitant price. The Centre for Good Governance has recently ensured that smaller biometric devices complying with Aadhaar specifications at cheap price can be integrated with the e-Pass system. These biometric devices can be connected to PCs or laptops and used for biometric authentication.
