On A Mission To Educate The Downtrodden. The aim of Mission Slate is to distribute a slate and a school bag to children from downtrodden community.
An NGO in Karimnagar motivates child beggars and rag-pickers to go to school
Hyderabad: The members of ‘Indian Youth Secured Organisation- Team India’ have initiated Mission Slate which was launched by B Prasada Rao, IPS, (The Director General of Police Government of Andhra Pradesh) and NV Surendra Babu, IPS, (The Additional DGP Training Govt. of AP) at DGP office, Hyderabad on Monday.
The aim of Mission Slate is to distribute a slate and a school bag to children from downtrodden community. IYSO-Team India started this mission in association with AP Police Department.
“We will start distributing slates and bags from June 1 in a phased manner. On June 1 we planned to distribute 100 slates and bags and 1,000 in the entire mission,” says, Ghanshyam Ojha, president, IYSO-Team India.
The group mainly consists of young graduates, who have a burning zeal to change the society. And they firmly believe that educating children from poor background will bring the much needed change. The group is currently based in Karimnagar and they are planning to expand their mission across the state in the near future.
“We have 10 HoD’s and 100 members to promote our mission. The members do the work voluntarily,” Ghanshyam adds.
The members go to the slums and educate parents on the importance of enrolling their children in the nearest government school. “Our main focus is on the children who beg on the streets and children who do rag-picking for a living. We identify the area and our volunteers go and counsel the parents and enroll the children in the school. Sometimes we help the family financially with whatever we could manage,” shares Ghanshyam.
“I have a facebook friend in Pakistan and I used to share my views with her. She liked my idea of Mission Slate that she is also starting a similar programme in Abbottabad district in Pakistan. So this programme will start in two countries on June 1,” he adds.
