Hyderabad: The Eamcet counselling which was scheduled to commence from June 29 has been delayed further. The notification would be released in a week and the counselling is likely to begin from July 10.

“The University Grants Commission (UGC) took over the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in December 2013 and revoked its powers to grant permissions to set up new colleges. However, after a few months, the Supreme Court restored AICTE’s powers. The whole episode, took its toll on the counselling procedure as AICTE had no authority during the litigation period to grant permission to new institutes and colleges,” said a senior official of the Higher Education Department.

A decision on the Single Window-2 (SW2) counselling related to all minority colleges, and a separate entrance test which is being strongly pitched by the management of private engineering colleges is yet to be finalised. “The Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (AFRC) will meet on June 30 to take a decision on it,” said Prof. LV Reddy, Chairman, Higher Education Council.

According to sources, over 150 private engineering colleges are pressing hard for conducting their own entrance test. The decision on the same would be taken by the both governments and GOs would be issued.

A new feature that is being introduced this year by the Eamcet officials is the ‘One Time Password’ (OTP). Students will receive OTP on their registered mobile whenever they log in. This is to ensure that the password is not misused by others.

For hassle-free counselling, a total of 72 helpline centres will be functional in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh this year. The centres will help students in the process of certificates verification and for registering options.

The Supreme Court in its order made it clear that Eamcet counselling should be completed by July 30. Commenting on it, Prof. L V Reddy said that first round of counselling will be completed by July end and classes will commence from August 1.
