Hyderabad: A decision on fee hike for MBBS and BDS courses will be announced in four days.
Speaking to reporters at Andhra Pradesh Secretariat here on Wednesday, Andhra Pradesh health minister Kamineni Srinivas said that a formal decision would be announced on the hike fee in four days.
Every three years, the Admission and Fee Regulator Council (AFRC) takes a call on upgrading or downgrading fee structures in colleges. It is learnt that AFRC which formally recommends on the fee structure in colleges did not send any communication to the government.
If the government goes by the demands of private medical colleges and increases the fee, it would not be any problem, as fee hike is purely a state prerogative.
Earlier, the Telangana government made it clear that it would not increase the fee structure of medical courses.
The first phase of medical counselling which is usually completed in the last week of June every year, has not yet begun this year, despite the Andhra Pradesh health minister saying that it would commence in the first week of August. There are doubts that even this deadline might be extended.
“By now the second counselling should have been completed and the academic schedule has to begin from September 1. But this year, even the first counselling is yet to start,” said a member Medical Council of India.
