Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police has busted a gang involved in hi-tech mass copying during exam conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board in Hyderabad, Tirupati and other centres across the country on Sunday.

The raid conducted by special operation team (SOT) of Cyberabad Police started at 2.30 pm at Salarjung Water Pump at Upparguda railway gate near Moula Ali railway quarters under the Malkajgiri police limits and apprehended the accused. The gang members were operating from the water pump to transmit answers to selected candidates.

The main accused, Machender, is a railway employee. He allegedly lured gullible candidates by collecting Rs 5 lakh each by providing electronic devices to them. He formed a team comprising Iliyas, Varun Giridhar, Venkatesh, Ashok and Srinivas. After getting a copy of RRB question paper through WhatsApp, the gang prepared answers and conveyed the same to the candidates through specially-designed electronic devices.

The SOT members arrested a total of 30 persons, including 10 candidates.

Array of devices seized

Hyderabad: The team of cyber cops which busted the hi-tech gang involved in the leakage of the RRB question paper came across an array of electronic devices and seized them. Among them were in-built SIM cards, laptops, printer, Bluetooth-enabled earphones, battery strips, cellphones, data cards, data cables, calculators and motorcycles from the possession of the accused persons used for mass copying.

The candidates, who wrote the exam with the help of electronic devices provided by Machender, were arrested from Dilsukhnagr Public School at Chaithnayapuri; Sri Chaithanaya Jr Kalasala in Archnana Complex; Gowhtam Model School, Trimulgherry; DAV Public School, Neredemet; Samaritans High School, Neredemet; Govinda Raja Swamy Arts College, Tirupathi; Sri Padmavathi Women’s Degree & PG College, Tirupathi; Rita High School, Miyapur; Ravindra Barathi Public School and Gowtham Degree College of Vijayawada. There were also some other Centres in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Electronic devices, SIM cards and Bluetooth-enabled earphones were seized from their possession.

The operation was conducted by Inspectors V Umender and B Pushpan Kumar and Sub-Inspector Anjaneyulu under the supervision of SOT Additional DCP E Ramachandra Reddy and other members.

The arrested accused persons and seized materials were handed over to the Malkajgiri Police Station for further investigation. Cyberabad Commissioner CV Anand has appreciated the good work done by SOT members and said they would be rewarded suitably.
