Hyderabad: Engineering students of Nizam Institute of Engineering and Technology (NIET) displayed innovative projects and demonstrated their technical and technological expertise at the Project Expo 2015 held at NIET campus on Friday. A variety of creative projects like a readymade shelter unit for disaster areas, smart ticket for metro transportation, paddy transplantation machinery and dual-powered pumps were some of the innovative projects showcased by engineering students.

These innovative ideas make a city smart; enhance efficiency, save money, time and electricity. Some of the projects and ideas that were presented at the Expo include the in-house fabrication and development of an F1 race car powered by a 4-stroke diesel engine, an all-terrain Quad vehicle driven by a two-stroke petrol engine.

Chairman of Ummul Qura Education Society takes a ride in the Formula 1 sports car fabricated and engineered by NIET students during the NIZAM Project Expo 2015 at NIET College Campus on Thursday, NIET Principal Mohammed Qaseem and students are also seen.

Also a low-cost temporary shelter designed to house at least 4 people can be effectively used in areas hit by natural disasters like earthquakes. Perhaps a first in India, the paddy transplantation machine designed by mechanical engineering students aims to eliminate the manual and labour involved in planting paddy.

NIET is contemplating to propose this project for real-life implementation and a dual powered water pump uses alternative energy in absence of grid power, especially in areas hit by power failure or breakdown during the times of natural calamities was conceived at the Project Expo 2015.

Another innovative project showcased at the event is an integrated smart ticket; a smart card that serves as a ticket, which can be used in a metro by simply swiping. The Project Expo was presided over by Mohammed Jaffar, Chairman – Ummul Qura Education Society, the parent body of NIET, Fateh Azmath, Joint Secretary and Mohammed Qaseem, Principal – NIET, students and faculty members.
