Both the career options - MBA and MTech are specialised, different, stable, and rewarding. However, selecting any one depends primarily on your capabilities, career goals and interests. An MBA will drift you to a management field and if you want a managerial position and understand strategy and needs apart from the technical skills then you can opt for an MBA.

I am in my second year of BTech and my relatives want me to do an MBA after my engineering as they believe that it would fetch me more salary. My friend says that I should do my MTech as it would help me stay in same profession and get a good job. I am confused and not able to decide which would be the right choice for me, please guide?

Both the career options - MBA and MTech are specialised, different, stable, and rewarding. However, selecting any one depends primarily on your capabilities, career goals and interests. An MBA will drift you to a management field and if you want a managerial position and understand strategy and needs apart from the technical skills then you can opt for an MBA.

It enhances your managerial skills, communication and presentation skills and will prepare you for the generalists role and open avenues in the non technical industries, such as banking, consultancy, finance, etc. Nevertheless, the biggest challenge you face is choosing the right and a premier B School, because thousands of students pass out with an MBA degree every year and are short of a good job.

If you are technically sound then MTech should open up various opportunities for you. MTech graduates are in high demand and much sought-after by technical industries, not just in India but worldwide. It leads to extremely lucrative and well-settled careers. To enroll for M.Tech in reputed institutes like IITs, you need to crack GATE. In case you plan to pursue MBA, there are entrance exams like CAT and MAT which you need to clear.

If you have specific reasons to go for M.Tech or M.S then go for it, like planning for Ph.D or pursuing an M.S in western countries like US (to settle abroad). I would like to mention here that NITs and IITs have all top companies of the world in every domain for campus recruitment with a 200 per cent placement figure. No university in the world has this kind of placement statistics.

Finally, what counts is your passion, your introspection and your interest level. If you have, the managerial and communication skills ingrained in you and are passionate for a fast moving life then MBA could be a tailor made course for you.

I have completed my 12th, I have appeared for EAMCET 2015 and I am waiting for my results. If in case, I fail to get through EAMCET I want to do B Sc. Could you please tell me the scope for BSc, the various streams of B Sc and also top colleges that offer BSc in Hyderabad?
