24,438 candidates take exam for 931 AE posts
Hyderabad: The Telangana State Public Service Commission’s (TSPSC) first online recruitment test for 931 assistant executive engineer posts in civil engineering was conducted peacefully amidst technical glitches on Sunday. The candidates, who went to appear for the test at Sri Datta Group of Institutions, Ibrahimpatnam, were in for a rude shock as the computers failed to functional due to technical problems.
The Commission, which swung in to the action, moved 136 candidates to other test centres located in the area and ensured that all the candidates took the examination in the given time as per rules. The candidates, who appeared at Stanley College of Engineering and Technology for Women in Hyderabad, said that they too faced server problems. However, it was restored within 10 minutes.
Following the fiasco, the Commission had constituted committee headed by a retired IAS officer Veerabadhraiah to probe the issue. “The Commission gave permission after the college agreed to setup buffer computers, but they did not. We do not know what intention the college had. It may be a case of technical problem or they might have done to spoil the image of the Commission or the government.
We have constituted an inquiry committee to probe the issue,” said C Vittal, member TSPSC. Of 30,796 candidates, who registered for the test, 24,438 appeared registering 79.3 per cent attendance. In all 99 test centres in four districts in the State, Hyderabad test centres witnessed highest turnout of 86 per cent, followed by Warangal with 54 per cent, 51 per cent in Khammam and least in Karimnagar with 43 per cent.
DGP Anurag Sharma, IGP (Intelligence) B Shivadhar Reddy and among others visited the command centre in the TSPSC office and had overview of the process of live conduct of online examination. Speaking to The Hans India, the candidates who appeared for the examination shared that general studies paper was found to be easy than it was thought.
Several candidates mentioned that Paper I had about 40 per cent of the questions on the Telangana State. Some of the questions include, boundaries of Telangana, who was the first chief minister of Hyderabad State; who sung Podusthunna poddumeeda from Jai Bolo Telangana movie, when was Haritha Haram commenced, what was the programme organised to revive lakes in the State, when and where TRS party was established and what is Telangana State flower.
However, the candidates found Paper II on civil engineering to be tough compared to Paper I. “I did not prepare for the examination. However, it came little easy compared to what I thought. I did not get answers in time as I learnt the concepts two year back. Paper I was mostly on Telangana and Paper II on civil engineering had questions on the designs, constructions and among others,” said Cheruku Abhilash, who appeared for the examination at Stanley College of Engineering and Technology for Women.
The Commission said it would send answer sheets along with preliminary key to the candidates after 6 pm on Monday (September 21). The candidates can send their objections on the preliminary key, if any within two days. After reviewing the objections, if any, TSPSC would publish the final key on September 24.
