Sanitation Workers Stay away From Duties At Night

The Sanitation Workers under the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation had stopped attending to duties at night demanding coverage under insurance policy. The sanitation workers earlier used to execute works along the 14.5 kilometre road in the city limits during night time.

However, for the last 40 days, the sanitation works at night have been stopped following incidents of some accidents.

The workers were asked to do the sanitation works in the morning and afternoon by dividing them into four groups. But the officials noticed that the sanitation works were not being executed properly during daytime due to heavy traffic.

So, the District Collector issued fresh orders to the officials asking them to ensure that the works were carried out during night time.

On receiving the orders from the Collector, the Municipal Commissioner spoke to the leaders of the Workers Union and promised to solve the problems of sanitation workers. He assured that the municipal corporation would look after the welfare of workers on night duty.

Subsequently, the Municipal Commissioner issued instructions to the contractor to take steps for carrying out the works during the night time.

The contractor also ordered the workers to attend work during night time. Demanding that they should be covered under an accident insurance policy, the workers were not turning up for night duties for the past five days. With the sanitation workers staying away from duties, unhygienic conditions are prevailing on city roads.
