Calcutta Chef awarded the Best Chef of the Year 2015

Kolkata: Chef Joseph Uttam Gomes, highly acclaimed chef of Kolkata was recently conferred upon, the title of “Chef of the year 2015” at the Brand Achievers Awards 2015 hosted by The Brand Academy of India. The ceremony was organized to acknowledge the exceptional achievers of our country in their respective fields of Medical, Business, Hospitality etc. Mr. Gomes was awarded the “Best Chef” title for his extraordinary contribution in the field of Hospitality.

One of the veteran actors of the Bollywood Film Industry, Mr. Sekhar Suman, the Chief Guest of this prestigious event honoured Celebrity Chef Joseph Uttam Gomes, Deputy Director of NIPS School of Hotel Management with the Prestigious Award of “Best Chef of the Year - 2015”.

Mr. Gomes has over 3 decades of rich experience in the hospitality industry. He has been associated with NIPS school of Hotel Management since 17 years and is presently working as Deputy Director, HOD-Food Production and Patisserie. Prior to this, he was associated with Hotel Hindustan International, Kolkata and Royal Navy Oman as an Executive Sous Chef for 8 years.

His accolades include Certificates (Team) awarded by “Limca Book of Record”, India Book of Records” and “Asia Book of Records “of making most varieties omelets in 10 minutes in the year of 2012. He is also the winner of “Francophony French Food Festival Award” in 1998. He had received the runner-up Certificate at the Bakery & Confectionery contest, 1997, for NIPS School of Hotel Management. He has also been the Winner of the “Gastronomix-2000” (Super Chef Contest), for the NIPS School of Hotel Management.

Speaking on the occasion Chef Gomes said, “This is a very proud moment for me. I want to dedicate this award to my students, my colleagues and of course my family. Nowadays, many students are getting into hospitality industry and doing exceptionally good. I would only like to say that if one has a knack for cooking, loves to experiment with food and is aspiring to pursue a career that is devoid of monotony or mindless drudgery, then professional kitchen is the place to be for both men and women alike. According to me the winner is the chef who takes the same ingredients as everyone else and produces the best results.”
