Telangana Election Watch, an organisation consisting of 20 civil societies, on Tuesday released 23 point “Peoples’ Manifesto” for the ensuing Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) election.

Hyderabad: Telangana Election Watch, an organisation consisting of 20 civil societies, on Tuesday released 23 point “Peoples’ Manifesto” for the ensuing Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) election.

The People’s Manifesto said that what the people looked forward to was wide and smooth roads, footpaths free from encroachments, effective drainage system, availability of quick response team in emergencies, a park for every ward, citizen’s participation in maintenance and a play ground for every ward.

The citizens also wanted good street lighting system in all colonies, especially the peripheral municipalities, special wing to attend public grievances, effective water supply system to ensure a minimum of 100 litres of potable water per person per day, effective disposal system of municipal waste. Quick response teams to attend public calls, environmental protection including planting trees in public and private places.

People’s involvement in the programme - awareness campaign to ban plastic use, effective steps to control mosquitoes, pigs, dogs, etc. The manifesto further said that there should be quick response teams to attend public grievances, assessment of property tax on scientific procedure and transparency, corruption-free administration, strict implementation of citizen’s charter,

ensuring quality in all the works being executed in GHMC, effective quality control wing, members of ward committees be nominated from local NGOS, Mahila Mandals, Welfare Associations, Senior citizens, etc. Area Sabha and Ward Committees should meet regularly, Secretary concerned to be made responsible for regular conduct of meetings, ward Committee to discuss the works proposed to be taken up with funds provided to the Corporator,

Other important issues in the manifesto are integrated slum development programme to be taken up by providing separate budget, development of Hussain Sagar and Musi as tourist spots, action plan to protect and develop Charminar into a tourist spot, stop the culture of regularisation of illegal and unauthorised layouts, protect the existing tanks , integrated transport system, etc.
