RAHUL GANDHI MAY CAMPAIGN IN OLD CITY

The Congress party, which proved to be a slow starter in the GHMC election campaign, sprang a surprise on Monday by announcing its mayoral candidate and that if voted to power MLCs would spend their funds in development of backward areas.

The TPCC threw a challenge to the ruling party and TDP-BJP combine by announcing the name of mayoral candidate. It has chosen Vikram Goud, son of former minister Mukesh Goud as its candidate for mayoral elections. Vikram Goud is contesting as Congress candidate from Jambagh division.

According to the leader of opposition in Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Rahul Gandhi has indicated that he would prefer to go round Old City soon and see for himself the conditions that exist there and ensure that it gets the attention it deserves.

He said Rahul Gandhi during his recent visit to Hyderabad had told the leaders that the MLC funds should be utilised for development of backward areas particularly the Old City. Shabbir Ali, along with other senior Congress leaders, undertook padayatra in Barkas, Chandrayangutta and Chanchalam wards on Monday evening and addressed street corner meetings.

He alleged that the MIM was encouraging water mafia which deprived the Old City of permanent solution to drinking water problem. The mafia, he alleged, earns over Rs 1 lakh per day from the residents by selling water.
