Several Candidates with Criminal CasesHyderabad: Amongst the candidates who are contesting in the Phase – II elections to be held on May 7, about 21% of MLA candidates and 17% of MP candidates have criminal cases against them. The Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) and the AP Election Watch, which analysed the 1,309 candidates in poll fray for Assembly elections, have found that 146 (11%) candidates have serious criminal cases against them, which include 'murder', 'attempt to murder' and 'crimes against women'. Similarly, in the case of LS candidates, 36 (11%) candidates have criminal cases. Twenty out of 171 candidates fielded by Congress for the Assembly are said to be facing criminal cases, while 73 out of 165 candidates from TDP, 82 out of 173 candidates from YSRCP, 20 out of 148 candidates from Jai Samaikyandhra and 1 out of 13 candidates from BJP have criminal cases. Amongst the LS candidates, 3 out of 25 candidates fielded by Congress have criminal cases, 7 out of 21 candidates from TDP, 10 out of 25 candidates from YSRCP and 1 out of 4 candidates from BJP mentioned criminal cases. Twelve MLA candidates have murder cases and 28 face attempt to murder cases. One MP candidate, Vangala Sreenivasa Reddy (Nandyal) has a case related to murder, while four others have attempt to murder cases against them.
