Chilakaluripet: Police swooped on the hunger strike camp at the local Orange Centre here on Thursday night and foiled the indefinite fast by Edara Girish Babu, Mukatar Ahmad, Cotton Rehman and Tella Sudhir. All the four were arrested and shifted to government hospital. Telugu Desam district president Prathipati Pulla Rao offered lemon juice and made them withdraw the hunger strike on Friday morning.
The local chamber of commerce called for a bandh against police action against the fasting agitators. The town observed total bandh on Friday. Relay fasts have been continuing at NTR centre, Orange Centre, Bhaskara centre, municipal office centre in the town. Nayee Brahmins (barbers) organised a dharna and later rasta roko on the national highway. They expressed their protest by tonsuring their heads and shaving their beards.
YSRCP leader’sdeeksha foiled
Nuzvid: YSR Congress party leader Laka Vengala Rao Yadav’s deeksha in support of Jagan’s indefinite fast in Chanchalguda jail was foiled by police here on Friday. As his health condition was deteriorating after three days of fast, he was arrested and forcefully shifted to the government hospital. The YSR Congress Party activists called for a bandh in the town in protest against the arrest of fasting leader. They enforced bandh in the town by closing shops and educational institutions. Nuzvid MLA Chinnam Ramakotaiah extended support to the bandh.
