Digvijaya Singh

First it was ND Tiwari. Then came Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Shashi Tharoor. Now it is the turn of Digvijaya Singh to confess his affair with a television journalist. On Wednesday, Digvijaya Singh took to Twitter to confess that he was in a relationship with television anchor Amrita Rai. In the past, several political leaders have made news for their scandalous relationships. Here are some of the famous (or infamous?) affairs.

ND Tiwari

He is alleged to be involved in a sex scandal that began with the broadcast by a Telugu news channel of a video that allegedly showed Tiwari in bed with three women at his official residence in the Raj Bhavan. A police complaint was filed against Tiwari for "sexually abusing girls, blackmail and misuse of office". Tiwari publicly apologised, but claimed that he was being "framed". On 27 December 2009, ESL Narasimhan was appointed to discharge the duties of Governor for the region, replacing Tiwari.

In 2008, Rohit Shekhar filed a paternity suit claiming Tiwari to be his biological father. The court ordered that DNA mapping of Tiwari be done, which the court successfully compelled compliance on May 29, 2012.The DNA test results released by the court on July 27, 2012, established that Tiwari was the biological father of Rohit Shekhar and that Ujjwala Sharma was the biological mother. On March 3 this year, Tiwari accepted that Rohit was his son.

NT Rama Rao

In 1993, the charismatic Andhra Pradesh leader and three-term Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, shocked friends, family and fans when he announced his decision to marry Lakshmi Parvathi, a Telugu writer, when he was 70. She was the author of his two-volume biography, which was published after his death. It is said that the two came together and fell in love when the books were being written. However, she was never accepted by NTR's family members, who kept a distance from her after his death.

Abhishek Manu Singhvi

In 2012, a sex tape of Congress’ Abhishek Singhvi and a female lawyer was released. The Delhi High Court restrained a media house from publishing, telecasting and broadcasting the contents of the sex tape. Singhvi claimed that such a CD either did not exist or if it did, it was clearly and obviously morphed, fabricated and forged. Later, the Congress released a statement declaring that the CD was a personal matter of the senior lawyer. The video went public on Facebook, YouTube and other social networking sites. Singhvi then blamed social media sites for sensationalism and claimed an organised gang was involved in broadcasting CD contents despite a court injunction. He quit as the chairperson of Parliament Standing Committee on Law and Justice and as the Congress spokesperson.

Omar Abdullah

Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah too was rumoured to be smitten by the love bug. In 2011, immediately after the news of him getting divorced with Payal Nath came out, rumour mills were rife that the debonair politician was all set to marry his journalist friend. However, Omar denied all such rumours.

Gopal Goyal Kanda

Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda launched the MDLR Airlines in 2007. Geetika Sharma, a former air hostess with MDLR, committed suicide on August 5, 2012. She left two suicide notes accusing Kanda of harassment. She also alleged that Gopal Goyal was having an illicit relationship with another woman, Ankita, with whom he has a child.
