According to fire prevention officials, the hotel, which operates from two blocks, was issued a notice a few months ago for not taking a 'No Objection Certificate' from the fire services department.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Monday night sealed the entire block of Paradise Hotel (four floors), including the 'take away' section and the Roof Garden restaurant. Fire broke out on Sunday morning at the hotel. The civic officials took more than 10 hours to realise that the hotel did not have any fire-fighting equipment.

According to fire prevention officials, the hotel, which operates from two blocks, was issued a notice a few months ago for not taking a 'No Objection Certificate' from the fire services department. The fire broke out in the kitchen on one of the blocks around 9.30 am on Sunday. However, the GHMC health and sanitation wing officials sealed the shutters on the ground floor of the block only around 9 pm. The 'take away' section continued to work till late in the night. The hotel management had put a 3,400kg gas tank on the terrace and connected it to the kitchen through a pipeline. As per the rules, the gas tank was supposed to be on the ground floor. The chimney of the hotel kitchen was also not cleaned properly, due to which the fire broke out.

P Venkata Ramana, additional director, GHMC- Fire Protection Wing, said, “A detailed report on fire compliance was sent by the GHMC to the director-general of fire services and the department will take suitable action on it.”

Dr Preeti Meena, North Zone GHMC Commissioner, said that they had sealed only the ground floors (shutters) on Sunday and the other floors in the block were sealed on Monday in a joint drive by them and the GHMC head office for non-compliance of the safety norms set by the fire and safety department.
