The Nehru Zoological Park (NZP) is leaving no stone unturned in its preparations for the anniversary celebrations. This year the NZP authorities are planning to conduct the celebrations on October 9 though the anniversary falls on October 6 due to various festivals.

New guests

The NZP has 19 tigers including white and Bengal Tigers but has just one giraffe. The zoo authorities are in talks with some zoo officials in South Africa who are willing to send three giraffes to the zoo in exchange for an elephant.

Two pairs of Ring Tailed and Brown Lemurs and a male and two female baboons from Taipei are also expected. As part of the exchange programme, NZP is sending a pair of lion and wild dog.

Security beefed up

Keeping the recent incident of a man mauled by a tiger in Deli zoo, the NZP management has increased the height of the railing. Four security personnel have been deployed to move around the zoo to keep vigil. Water cannon and rubber bullets would be made available to personnel in an eventuality.
