The Qadir Ali Baig Theater Foundation will be organising a ten-day theatre extravaganza. The 9th edition of the Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival will be held from November 7 to 16. The prestigious festival will be spread across the city at multiple venues like Ravindra Bharathi, Salar Jung Museum, Alliance Française and Taj Deccan.

Featuring the crème de la crème of theatre from across the country and around the world, the theme of this year’s festival is ‘Biographies’.

Ranging from real-life stories of actors by Mohan Agashe to rulers by padmashri awardee Mohammad Ali Baig, victims of abuse by Usha Ganguli, Mita Vasisht and Dolly Ahluwalia to the imaginary by Vani Ganapathy, to the comic by Rakkesh Bedi, this edition is all set to enthuse. The success of the festival prompted its curator padmashri awardee and theatre revivalist Mohammad Ali Baig to introduce a fringe section this year, titled ‘Bouquet’, with an emphasis on global circus theatre, plus Telugu theatre’s renowned artiste Rallapalli and Girish Karnad’s latest play feature in this new section of the theatre festival.

This festival’s workshops and book releases are equally interesting with the European circus artistes conducting a workshop on ‘Techniques of Circus Theatre’ and Kolkata’s Usha Ganguli with a workshop on ‘Rhythm and Body Language on Stage’, while Urdu poet and art critic Kadir Zaman’s ‘Open Book’ will be released during the ten-day extravaganza.

The festival is part of the Telangana government’s Happening Hyderabad, in association with Telangana Tourism, Salar Jung Museum, Embassy of France, and Alliance Francaise. It will be presented by the Karvy Group.

Entry cards of Rs 1,000, 500 and 200 will be available at AA Hussain’s, Abids; Ofen, Road No 10, Banjara Hills; Walden’s, Begumpet; Sangeet Sagar, Paradise Circle; and Shoe World, Pathergatti.
