The National Service Scheme (NSS) provides a platform for students to develop leadership skills and helps them mingle with people, said Krishna University (KRU) Vice Chancellor V Venkaiah on Tuesday.

Participating in the Youth Festival, an annual event organised by the NSS unit of Krishna University at the National College auditorium, Venkaiah said students should develop the courage to face failures and strive to achieve success with determination.

NSS coordinator CM Vinay Kumar said that more than 100 students competed in 17 events held during the Youth Festival. Violinist Sujitha of PB Siddhartha College of Arts and Science stood first in solo instrumental music competition. In classical dance and music event, B Akhila Reddy of Nalanda College won the first prize for her Kuchipudi recital. In group dance (western), Nalanda and SPM Hindu College secured the second and third prizes. Later, the Vice Chancellor gave away prizes to the winners.

University registrar D Surya Chandra Rao, principal YK Sundara Krishna and other faculty members lauded the efforts of students in showcasing their cultural talent at the youth festival.
