A large number of saplings greet patients when they step into city doctor K Venugopala Reddy’s hospital at Mogalrajpuram. Any patient can pick up a sapling free of cost.The doctor is on a mission to increase the green cover in the city. For this, he advises his patients to plant trees near their houses. Not only does he dole out the benefits of planting trees, he distributes saplings too.
“More the plants, the cleaner the environment. There are many health benefits of growing plants. Everyone should take part in the plantation programme and make the emerging capital city cool and green,” the doctor said.Reddy, who is a consultant for many diabetic patients, never misses a chance to bring awareness among people on environment protection and importance of raising saplings.
The doctor distributed nearly 6,000 saplings from his village Nutakki in Guntur and the surrounding villages that include Revendrapadu, Chirravuru, Veerulapadu and Ramachandrapuram.This year, the doctor has set a target to distribute 10,000 saplings and take up plantation programme in coordination with various organisations.
He wants to build up a network majorly comprising students. He distributed 2,000 saplings during Janmabhoomi programme held in the city under the leadership of Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan Rao. The doctor purchases the saplings from Kadium Nursery of East Godavari district.
