It was a treat for music enthusiasts as Mokkarala Krishna Kumari rendered a beautiful veena recital at the monthly programme of Sri Karthikeya Gana Sabha held in Gnana Saraswathi Temple. As part of the monthly concerts, the graded artiste of All India Radio and Dooradarsan gave a mesmerising veena Recital.

To the delight of audience Krishna Kumari started her recital with Daruvu Varnam in khamas ragam of Muttaih Bhagavathar. The then took to ‘Gaja Vadana” (Sriranjani) of Papanasam Sivan and “Srigara Lahari” (Neelambari) of Lingaraj. She performed “Saraswathi Namosthuthey” (Saraswathi) as veneration to the goddess. Kumari then went on to render “Marugelara” (Jayanthisri) and “Nagumomu Ganaleni” (Abheri), both of the devout Thyagaraja, with perfect modulation on the veena.

The main attraction of the event was the beautiful recital of “Kaddanuvariki” in Thodi raga Krithi of Thyagaraja. She gave a lucid ragalapana and a fine show of the Thanam. Mridanga Vidwan Pulletikurthi Venkata Ramanamurthy, lecturer in Sri Thyagareaja Government Music and Dance College, gave a seasoned display on Mridangam while performing Thaniavarthanam and the others items. A disciple of Ghatam Karthik, SA Phani Bhushan gave a fitting display of his talent on ghatam.

All in all, both the accompanying artistes gave their best to enhance the recital atmosphere and proved to be great artistes worth remembering. Krishna Kumari concluded her recital with some famous krithis of Annamacharya and Purandarasu Devaranamalu with consistent zeal and enthusiasm. Such performances, if encouraged, are the only hope for whetting the still persistent musical appetite of the music lovers in the city.
