Finding and getting to the right address has always been a difficult task, but not anymore. Vijayawada city is all set to witness digital door numbers for easy identification of residential address without depending on route maps. The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has already introduced digital house numbers in divisions 13, 17, 18 and 21 in the city on a pilot basis from April 2. If successful, this project would be implemented in the entire city.

Speaking to The Hans India, Municipal Commissioner G Veerapandian said that the VMC had already given authorisation to Hyderabad-based Zippr Private Limited in this regard. A survey has been conducted by the corporation officials to list out the commercial and residential buildings in the city. As per the official sources, the Mahatma Gandhi Road alone has more than 4,000 commercial and 25,000 residential buildings.

The officials, as part of the survey, had collected the details of ration card, Aadhar card, property tax, PAN card, voter ID of the building owners and issued a unique identification codes (UID) to all the commercial buildings and 12,000 out of the total 25,000 residential buildings on MG Road. The remaining lot would be issued the UID codes in next two weeks,” he said.

Explaining the project, the civic chief said, “Zippr has been asked to develop an eight digit alphanumeric short code (Smart Address Code) management application for easy identification of door numbers and residential address of people. The code will not only act as location finder but will also enable people to lodge complaints with the VMC.

A person who seeks to file a complaint need not submit his name or address, but he can simply provide the UID code and the complaint will be considered. Apart from this, people can also use this Smart Access Code for online shopping. “The VMC is exploring all possibilities to introduce the concept all the divisions of the city,” Veerapandian concludes.
