Four journalists--M Ramalakshmi , programme head, Bharat Today; Vedula Narsimham, Hyderabad Doordarshan; Kranti Dev Mitra, TV9 senior sub-editor and Vakkalanka Ramana, assistant editor, Andhrajyothy Telugu Daily--were felicitated.

They were awarded Swargiya Bandaru Sadasiva Rao Smaraka Puraskar and Swargiya Vadlamudi Rammohan Rao Smaraka Puraskar. Hari Hara Sharma in his opening remarks stressed on the importance of communication in the present day life and Narada Muni is believed to be a pioneer of communication.

“Hence the day is called Patrakar Diwas and is celebrated in this form across the nation,” he said. Chief Information Commissioner Prof. Madsbushi Sreedhar was the guest of honour who delivered a lecture on ‘Effects of Fifth Estate’. “In every democratic country, freedom of speech and expression are given a significant place and it has been dubbed as 'fourth estate'.

The Fifth Estate is a socio-cultural reference to groupings of outlier viewpoints in contemporary society, and is most associated with bloggers, journalists, and non-mainstream media outlets. The relevance of the Fifth Estate is equally significant in the recent times,” said the professor.
