Even the most career-oriented girl gets all mushy when the bride to be tries on beautiful, flowing gowns. This scenario is well depicted in movies like ‘27 Dresses’, ‘Bride Wars’ or ‘Princess Diaries’. To have the perfect gown, the perfect kiss and the perfect man waiting for her at the end of the isle, is every girl’s secret wish for her wedding day.
And offering a vent to this dream is Sybil Sean, owner of the Hyderabad Bridal Studio at Chandulal Bowli in Sikh Village. Sybil is not new to this business as her family has been in the wedding business for over a decade. The Bridal Studio is the first-of-its-kind boutique in the city which offers picture perfect wedding gowns.
The boutique looks like a set straight out of a Hollywood film. The bride to be can stand on the white pedestal to review her great gown and the mirrors all around tell her how incredibly stunning she looks. “The first words of any visitor are usually “Am I in India?” or “I’ve only seen this in movies!” explains Sybil cheerfully.
“Every to be bride who visits the shop tells me that wedding shopping has become so easy now. Before, you had to get a gown stitched. You’d have to buy the material, look for patterns, etc and you never know what the dress will look like on you until it is done. But over here, in one instance, you will know how you’re going to look on your wedding day,” she adds.
Sybil, who is a mother of two and a full time event manager, opened the boutique after many of her clients suggested her to take up the idea. “In fact, when I was getting married, I knew that I did not want a stitched dress. Most of the Indian whites are the bluish whites. To get this clear white, perfect finish, delicate work, and the lace, we get all our dresses from either the UK or the US,” explained Sybil.
“There was a bridal expo that was held in Thailand some time ago so that’s when we decided that it was the right time to start. We would have gowns from all over the world in one place. We picked two to three dresses from every designer,” explained Sybil.Such grandeur and perfection might raise concerns about the cost factor but there is really nothing to worry about. The cost of the dresses ranges from Rs 20,000 to Rs 45,000. Sybil’s mantra for her studio is “Let’s make it available and let’s make it economical.”
She has attracted many customers only through word of mouth. Within just two months of the store’s launch, the Facebook page secured a whooping 7,000 likes and the number continues to grow. The success is synonymous and well deserving as nobody who visited the studio went home without a dress. “All the dresses have corset backs so are adjustable to the shape of the body. The bride doesn’t have to worry about losing weight before the wedding and we also have all sizes, from small to extra large,” explains Sybil.
It is not only the tastes if the bride that are catered to but also those of her family. Dresses for the bride’s mother and for the brides’ maids are also available in appealing colours. Sybil agrees spiritedly that hers is a very happy profession. “At the end of every wedding, it is not just about seeing it go on well but about hearing what people say.
Especially when the bride’s parents come up to me to talk, it feels wonderful. Recently a bride’s mother came to me and gave me a tight hug. She had tears rolling down her cheeks and was telling me that she didn’t know just how to thank me!” shared Sybil.
