Observing the changing seasons comes naturally to Vijay M Dhore. A blade of grass, misty mountains, a dew drop on a flower and the horizon have been his muse for over 20 odd years. But if you want to see them in his paintings; you would have to travel along with him on a journey with his favourite colours: turquoise blue, yellow, greens and a dash or red.

From realistic to semi realistic and now totally into abstract landscape, the 42-year-old senior artist with the Central Institute of Hindi has made a mark for himself. After 12 solo shows, 54 group shows and numerous workshops, the artist’s work is being recognised and he is one among the eight artists from India selected for the Camel Art Foundation’s Euro Tour which begins on July 13.

A striking feature in all his paintings is a single stroke right in the centre that breaks monotony and makes the viewer to reflect. This stroke has become his trademark. The deep understanding of nature, the observation of the changing seasons and nature’s mysticism finds utterance in his works that evokes a vision of earthly hues.

Vijay’s artistic journey has been a long journey. Perspective is a word that the artist uses repeatedly when he speaks about the landscapes. “I have grown over the years as an artist. From realistic to abstract, the change has been conscious. We are living in a globalised world and the dynamics of space and time have changed. We are always changing. An artist is a product of his times,” says Vijay.

The use of colours is the evolution of the artist’s thoughts and experiences. The optimum use of cadmium yellow in his works and the smooth layers that overlap to create an effect of spring or the turquoise blue remind one of the unending oceans. Be it pastoral beauty, snow capped mountains, backwaters and the deep jungles, nature has been his companion and Vijay Dhore is longing to visit Europe just to soak in more of nature’s beauty.
