New capital priority list: River beach, bridges, wide roads. The river beach, now part of the Punnami Resorts held by AP Tourism, would have a platform along the river, expanded by 1.5 km in the first phase and the same on Guntur side in the next phase.

Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, appears firm on encouraging nightlife in the new capital: constructing a river beach at Bhavanipuram along river Krishna and two bridges on both sides of Bhavani Island, connecting to it. Work would begin once the government lays the foundation stone for the new capital on October 22, 2015.

The river beach, now part of the Punnami Resorts held by AP Tourism, would have a platform along the river, expanded by 1.5 km in the first phase and the same on Guntur side in the next phase. The construction of the two bridges near Bhavani Island – aimed at completing in a year – would provide evening entertainment to people. It would help create confidence among people on the government’s commitment to construct an international capital.

The first phase of the capital would also include widening of three roads.

• The first, river bund , would start from Sitanagaram adjacent to the Prakasam Barrage and continue until Uddandarayapalem; connecting the Chief Minister’s temporary residence on the banks of river Krishna.. Officials are also making vaastu adjustments to the private guesthouse, which was tipped for the CM’s residence.

• The second road to be doubled in width is from Undavalli to Amaravati town, which passes through Penumaka, Yerrapalem, Mandadam, Rayapudi and Thulluru. This would be the gateway to the capital. The government plans to make it a four-lane road with central lighting and greenery to attract investors to the new capital. Houses may be acquired to widen this road.

• The Guntur-Thulluru road would be widened to provide road connectivity to the capital for the people of Guntur, Palnadu and Rayalaseema districts. This would also be a four-lane road.

“The roads and the bridges would change the look of the capital. This visible development to be taken up on priority would certainly attract the investors,” asserted an official from the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA).
