History

Public Gardens was established in 54 acres of land which belonged to Balakrishnan in 1868 AD consisting of some Babul (acacia aratica) and other species of trees. It was originally known as (Bagh-E-Aam). Subsequently an engineer of Nizams made improvements to the garden and completed it in 1872. A zoo was added with many birds and animals in 1872. Certain improvements were also made by Mirza Islam, when he was the president of council of ministers, Hyderabad.

Problems

Shaik Mehaboob, a regular visitor to the park for the past 25 years, said, “8,000 walkers come daily to the park. The park maintenance is bad, pond has dried up. There is no entry fee for this garden and as such unsocial elements take advantage of it. It is tough task for the cops to deal during the night. The government should revive the past glory of the park.”
