Kamineni Hospitals is offering Rs. 1,400 discount on liver profile tests throughout the week on account of World Hepatitis Day, which is observed on 28 July. The move is done in order to create awareness among people about the disease and its preventive measures.
Addressing a press conference, Dr N Bhavanarayana and Dr Nandigam Venu said, ``Viral hepatitis is an inflammation of liver caused by one of the five hepatitis viruses A, B, C, D and E and it affects millions of people worldwide causing acute and chronic liver disease.”
“The infection is diagnosed by symptoms that include extreme fatigue, dark urine, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fever and jaundice,” they said. According to a study, 1.4 million people die of viral hepatitis every year and over 4 million get affected by the disease worldwide.
Specifying the need to curb the disease, they said, “Invasive medical procedures may also be one of the causes if proper care is not taken. Hepatitis B and C infections may become chronic leading to cirrhosis and liver cancer if timely treatment is not taken.” Hospital COO and interventional pulmonologist, Dr R Srinivasa Kumar was also present at the conference.
