“Information is key in these issues. Lot of women don’t know how and what surround this task. It is important for us to make them aware of it,” said Dr Lakshmi, neonatologist at Apollo Cradle. Women need to be ready for the process while they are pregnant. It is not only important for women but everyone in the family to be aware of the do’s and don’ts of breastfeeding.

“More often than not, due to lack of information in the family system, women end up doing the exact opposite of what we suggest. It is because they are confused as to whom to listen, the doctor or mother-in-law,” said Dr Sharmila, consultant pediatrician at Apollo Cradle. This initiative was part of Breastfeeding Week celebrated by World Health Organisation (WHO) from August 1-7, to promote the cause and provide awareness among people.
