Yeh Humara Shehar 68 Mansoorabad

Mansoorabad a popular shrub located in the east zone of GHMC limits is one of the major commercial and residential centres of Hyderabad. It was once a Gram Panchayat turned to a municipality under the LB Nagar constituency. Landmark colonies are Sahara India, Southend Park, Chandragiri Colony, Suryodaya Colony, Sreeram Nagar, Rocktown Colony and Cosmopolitan Colony.

All public and private sector banks, major malls, commercial establishments, schools, colleges, hospitals, function halls, hotels, movie theaters and marble shops exist here. LB Nagar is heart-line, which has developed rapidly since 1975. Major temples are Pochamma, Ayyappa Swamy, Saibaba, Anjaneya Swamy and Venkateshwara Swamy.

The neighbourhood areas are Mahaveer Harina National Park, Nagole, Saroornagar and Sahebnagar. Mansoorabad is 15 km away from Scunderabad Railway Station and 25 km from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. TSRTC buses are frequently available to LB Nagar, linking it with the city and surrounding suburbs.

It is also a major stop and pickup point for long distance buses to Chennai, Vijayawada, Rajamundry, Guntur, Nellore, Vishakapatnam, Nalgonda, Miryalaguda, Suryapet and Khammam. The closest MMTS station is Malakpet. LB Nagar is the origination point of the Metro Rail Project and its works are in full swing to en route to Miyapur.

History

According to locals, Mansoor Ali Khan was a Jagirdhar who ruled the area during the Nizam era and subsequently, this area came to be called as Mansoorabad. Ex-Councilor (2000-2005) Koppala Vittal Reddy said, in 1963 the entire area was a dense forest with flora and fauna.

Wild animals were active and people were scared to live in this part of the jungle. The area was famous for grape gardens in those days. Rapid developments took place from 1970 onwards and now the town has grown beyond imagination and turned into LB Nagar.

Problems

Siris Chemical Factory, which began in 1965, was a nightmare for local residents due to release of chemical gases and its industrial pollutants, leading to health hazards. However, it was closed down later. Auto Nagar dumping yard existing since 1970 was another health hazard; it was shifted elsewhere in 2006.

Local resident K Janardhan Reddy said that the main problem is insufficient drinking water, widening of underground drainage system and laying of CC and BT roads. The residents have submitted a memorandum to the GHMC and TS Government for laying storm lines with trunk link for final merger into Musi River.
