A modern dhobi ghat constructed as compensation and rehabilitation in lieu of the property of about 1 acre acquired for the construction of Metro Rail viaduct by Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) was inaugurated on Monday.

Addressing the gathering of washer men, local residents and other prominent members who participated in installation of Renuka Yellamma deity at the new Dhobighat, NVS Reddy, MD, HMR said that rehabilitation of affected people will always remain top priority for HMR. He thanked the washer men for their cooperation in extending their land for the construction of a world class Metro station at MGBS.

In his address he reiterated that Hyderabad Metro train will be a mode of convenient and safe travel for all commuters and it will be an example of social equality and foster oneness amongst all classes of society.

The dhobi ghat is constructed at a cost of Rs 90 lakh with facilities like drilling of 165 mm diameter (6 ½” ) bore well, wash rooms, provision of washing ghats, construction of community hall and provision of sheds.

A compound wall of 700 ft length was also constructed. Superintendent Engineer, Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, GM (Works) BN Rajeshwar and other senior engineers and officers of HMR and L&TMRHL joined the inauguration and inspection.
